We are pleased to announce our latest exhibition in the P5 Gallery at Bolton Railway Station is ‘SCENE’, an ensemble sculpture by Laurence Davey, lecturer in Screenwriting at University of Greater Manchester. The sculpture is constructed from a selection of different woods including Sycamore, Birch, Holly, Apple, Cherry, Pine and Walnut. Standing on a black circular base which is eight feet wide, the tallest sculpture stands an impressive eleven feet high and towers towards the gallery ceiling.
Laurence commented, ‘SCENE is a monumental sculpture carved from wood that explores the theme of life emerging from the void.’
‘It invites the viewer to engage with the presence of familiar and alien forms and encounter a sculpture which seems to evoke both violence and re-generation.’
Julie Levy, Chair of the Bolton Station Community Partnership which hosts the P5 Gallery said, ‘We are very pleased to have such a striking and dramatic work on show in the gallery. The movement yet stillness Laurence has captured in these forms makes viewing them a memorable experience.’
The exhibition is open to the public on Saturday 24th May from 1pm to 5pm, Sunday 25th May from 1pm to 5pm, Friday 30th May from 6pm to 8pm, Saturday 31st May from 1pm to 5pm, Sunday 1st June from 1pm to 5pm, Friday 6th June from 6pm to 8pm and Saturday 7th June from 1pm to 5pm.
